HAPPY MAIL!!!!

August 28, 2025

What is anymore exciting than getting a special package in the mail, one that is "just for you"? Let's talk about Block of the Month programs and why you might want to consider joining up for one.

I have done many Block of the Month quilt videos with the shop. It is fun watching the different blocks take shape and seeing how they will all work together in the final project. And it's great fun seeing the customers blocks as they complete them. Here are a couple of the blocks from our current BOM we have going at the shop (Starlight by Wilmington). And we have an upcoming Lori Holt applique BOM following this one that is going to be lots of fun.

But............I had never personally joined up for one separate from that. Then I saw one I loved and joined up. Now I get it!!!!!!! What a great experience, since I wasn't part of the planning for this one, it is new and exciting. After all, I need to stay inspired too! I love waiting for that little package to arrive in the mail each month. But beside the "fun factor" there are quite a few benefits.

My happy mail!!! Just look at that gorgeous Corey Yoder fabric.

So what are some of the benefits?

*If you only have a limited amount of time to sew this might be the answer. You can commit to only a few hours a month or week, then this is the easiest way to make the most of your time. The fabric arrives each month in your package, no more digging through your stash to pull out what you need or trying to coordinate the colors etc. Your little package contains everything you need for that month. And with only a small block of time each month, you will end up with a completed project at the end of the year.

*And in the same manner, if you only have a limited budget this spreads the cost out over a set time into more manageable bite-size payments. Plus it may stop the "impulse" purchases associated with a trip into the fabric store.

*If you have limited space in your home for your sewing projects, this is a small, compact parcel versus a larger space needed to store the entire project requirements. It will be much easier to store flat completed quilt blocks than bulky, large cuts of fabric.

*You can find Block of the Month projects available in all skill levels and many different sewing techniques (paper piecing, applique, traditional piecing). It's a great opportunity to branch out and try a new skill or technique with just one small step each month. You probably won't get as overwhelmed and will have a feeling of accomplishment each month as you complete that installment.

*There are often videos or blogs associated with a Block of the Month that will also come in handy to give you a little guidance throughout the project.

*If you have been experiencing some burnout, or a slump in your mojo this might be the ticket to motivate you without bogging you down. Small, manageable goals makes it easier to obtain the goal each month and will seem less intimidating than having the whole project staring you in the face each time you walk into your sewing area.

If you haven't ever considered a block of the month I encourage you to think about it. I bet you will really feel like doing your happy dance when that little parcel arrives each month!!!

Thanks. I am experiencing a bit of burnout! Just finished a huge batik "Jubilation" quilt...eight month BOM...but only bought the pattern...fabric separately. BOM is a great way to stay motivated. Any suggestions for Canadian BOM sites...don't want to buy or import from U. S.....
